You’ve got Quail! Widespread across New Zealand since its arrival in 1862, the California Quail is a striking, unusually beautiful game bird, with a forward curling black plume that sits on a gorgeously patterned black and white head. It has a sweetly curved black beak, a pair of white “eyebrows” and sturdy black legs that hold up its rotund, almost perfectly round body. It has a distinctive and frankly charming call of “chi-ca-go!” and its mating rituals are..unusual, to say the least. Our California Quail has been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled to welcome it onto our shelves, and into our hearts!
